Bracelets of doom

•September 4, 2008 • 4 Comments

Not these ones but some these. I’ve worn them on the last two runs - each one weighs just over a Kilo. I wasn’t really sure how they would feel , but they are actually comfortable. The weight doesn’t really pull your arms it seems to really hit your thighs and also make you out of breath.

Well after the 13+ hours at work yesterday I managed a shorter day today and got out for a cheeky 1 mile walk, and then a 5 mile run after work matched with a 3 mile bike ride.

Has anyone else noticed that Autumn is here for sure - it was freezing this morning.

September:
Walking Miles = 7 MIles
Bike Miles = 19 Miles

Raining cats and Mauls

•September 3, 2008 • 1 Comment

Well it’s been a crazy few days (most not in a good way). I’ve just back into work after my first run since Sunday. I’m stretching the old foot with the tennis ball - seems to be working. I’ll let you all know how it feels in the morning.

Yesterday was a 3 mile walk and a 7 mile bike ride. Mrs JB joined the Treadmill gang and did some miles on that yesterday (I did warn her that running is addictive)

So this weeks stats look like this:

September:
Walking Miles = 6 MIles
Bike Miles = 16 Miles
Running Miles = 5 Miles

Non Running Day Part One

•September 1, 2008 • 3 Comments

Well the foot feels a bit better today. I really recommend rolling a tennis ball under your foot to help stretch it out even if you don’t suffer from any pain at the moment.

Today’s exercise breaks down to 3 Miles walking, 2 miles bike riding with the ladies and another 7 miles on my own.

Mrs JB is now running the whole loop all the time now. Tonight the rain was harsh. The small person was near home and tried to get back on the kerb on her bike but the rain made her wheel slip, she skidded and fell straight off. Her knees are shredded, thank goodness she always rides with gloves and a helmet on… She is going to look great in PE tomorrow at school for her first day back.

Can someone please switch the rain off now.

September:
Walking Miles = 3 MIles
Bike Miles = 9 Miles
Running Miles = 0 Miles

Good News - Bad News

•August 31, 2008 • 6 Comments

Good news is I got my miles in. The Bad news is my left foot really really hates me. I am going to have to give it some major rest if I’m going to run the half in a few weeks :-(

I’m Icing it, rolling a tennis ball under foot and some other exercises I have found in runners world.

This leaves me feeling pants! I love running and now have to already deal with the voice in my head telling me I’m going to lose my fitness over the rest period.

To help with this next month will be “Bikeathon” with a little touch of “Walkathon” for me and then hopefully running can commence again ASAP.

Miles for August = 162.5

What a week!

•August 30, 2008 • 2 Comments

Pants all round on the running front. My foot has been killing all week. I rested, iced and took some pills - seems to be better now thank goodness. I think it is due to me being tight and not wanting to pay for new trainers. So I let some moths free and spent some cash on some spanky New Balance.

I’ve been going out with the girls though (on my bike) Mrs JB manages to run the whole loop without stopping now - Cool.

Manage a walk yesterday, and I’m going out for my pirate run later with the girls. Tomorrow is a long run 14+ miles so I’m hoping that the foot behaves. Sam (one of the jogging crew I drag out at work now and) is coming over to see if we can handle the half marathon distance as the Robin Hood isn’t that far off now.

Speaking of the Robin Hood we are raising money for the “Kingston Hospital Born Too Soon Fund”. The reason behind this is a friend of ours has had a very premature baby how is currently battling it out in the hospital. If you fancy helping out a little our JustGiving page can be found here. Cheers.

Well hope everyone has a great weekend and you guys in the US enjoy the long weekend.

More running…

2 family miles yesterday and 2 more today plus another cheeky 8…going good, but the Tiger Balm is working overtime on my left foot. For some reason it’s not happy, I’m hoping it will pass.

See ya.

Flash

•August 24, 2008 • 2 Comments

Well it’s been a busy and fun few days off work. Plenty of running and bike riding etc.

How did the horse trek go? Amazing! I was sh*t scared as it was a lot more hardcore than I had anticipated. The 2 hour trek started in the highest village in the UK “Flash” and the ride was a mix of going down mad steep hill paths full of loose boulders and 100ft drop offs to the river below, quick flat areas and then long climbs. The small person shone. She was in her element and broke of with 2 other riders and a leader for some seriously fast canters along the river side. It was great and we would love to do it again.

Mrs JB and the small person are still running and bike riding. Mrs JB’s running distance has increased over the last week and the new trainers and exercises have seemed to stem the shin splints.

We all headed out for a bike ride today, we did a great 6 mile ride in the local forest and back, we called in for a cheeky ice cream for the fun sized person at the local pub near the end of the ride which made her smile big time.

Cancer update - pants really. Dropping the old boy off in the morning for a trip to London for a bone scan and then he has another full scan at the end of the week. They have found the cancer and will be starting a 6 week campaign of blanket radio therapy :-/ Fingers crossed this will be the last time he has to go through all this cr*p, but cancer seems to be a little fu*ker that likes to stay around once it’s moved in.

Hope everyone has a great bank holiday. I need to get some serious miles in this week.

And what a start - full of head cold, YUM!

Work was a struggle, and the thought of running was not on the top of my fun things to do list. But running has sorted me out, and when I got home the girls were waiting for family run time. All good.

Miles = 9 total :-) Have it!

Busy Saturday.

It’s been a busy one over at Jogger Towers. Took Mrs JB down to the best Running Shop I know in the Midlands - Derby Runner. They checked her feet over made her do some funny tests and fitted her with some cool New Balances and also gave her some advice on how to beat the shin splints (more on that later).

JJ is doing well after operation ‘cut of your nads’ - he isn’t as tired as he was yesterday but has a right cackle rattle in his throat from where he had the pipe down it…fingers crossed for a full recovery ASAP.

The beard is growing back quickly - I’m taking a photo everyday and will stick them in a flash animation at the end of 4 weeks to see how it looks in fast forward mode.

After doing loads of household chores the Jogger Trio head out for a run. Mrs Jogger was sporting her new trainers and also some tubigrip ankle to knee supports on both legs. After our 2 mile walk and jog route the verdict is the new trainers rock and no more shin pains (well no new added pains) which is cool! Thanks for the advice everyone. Now Mrs JB is jogging I think I should get her to do a guest blog - what do you all reckon?

Music is something I haven’t mentioned for a while. I’ve mainly been running to the wombats, ting tings, linkin park and the sound track to the Sweeny Todd.

Hope you all have a great weekend - I’m off for a glass of the red to prepare for my long run tomorrow I read on runner susans blog that hangovers are they way forward for training.

This is what my last post looked like when I slapped through this cool little application:

Check it out

It’s Friday! FRIDAY! YAH! this week has almost gone in rewind, thank goodness it’s over. Running today saw another 7 miles to add to the list. No family running tonight - Mrs JB is resting the shins before we get some new trainers tomorrow.

JJ went to the vets for the snip today - poor little chap seems to have taken it ok, very tired though :-( Fingers crossed he gets over it all cool and the gang. JInx was pulling what hair he has got out pacing around for him.

Hope everyone has great weekends and remember Crisps are not the size of your face.

Are we all idiots? They think so.

Last week I had a splurge and ate a pack of these bad boys - very, very tasty but enough calories for a small meal. whilst eating them I noticed the disclaimer on the bottom left of the pack LOL! Click the image and have a read. The UK must be full of simpletons.

On the running front - thanks for all the shin splint advice Mrs JB will be going to the running shop for some new trainers this weekend. 9 miles today 7 and another family 2 miler. I’m really enjoying the family time - happy days!

Beard today but gone tomorrow

•August 13, 2008 • 8 Comments

This was my beard for the month of July - Mrs JB asked me if i would grow one and being a good husband I did. But It has been bugging the hell out of me since the weekend (swimming with long facial hair is just wrong). So tonight when I got in from work I took this photo and shaved the sucker off! Now I’ve been told that I have to grow it back.

Running today was a good 8 miles for me - Mrs JB has had a rest day as she has managed to get shin splints. Ice and rest a bit. Anyone out there have any good tips to help with the splints? It’d be great if she could not get them. Cheers.
